Role:

The RN, Senior Preceptor coordinates the orientation and training of staff to clinical processes, standards and utilization of the electronic medical record. S/he ensures each new staff member in conjunction with the team/ department preceptor has successfully acquired knowledge and skills essential to provide quality patient care and to document appropriately in the medical record. The position will participate as a subject matter expert in evaluation of care provided, recommendation for practice change and development of educational programs to enhance learning. In collaboration with discipline specific managers, medical staff and corporate departments the Senior Preceptor participates in the evaluation of accuracy and completeness of documentation in accordance with regulations and established standards. The RN, Senior Preceptor assists in identifying trends and opportunities for improvement, makes recommendation for practice changes, and conducts ongoing staff training.

Qualifications:
• Current Florida license as RN.
• Bachelors in Nursing preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance in the State of Florida.
• Reliable transportation to meet visit schedule.
• Three (3) years experience as a hospice RN preferred, with demonstrated competence in case management, clinical leadership and in depth understanding of electronic medical record.
• Demonstrates expert knowledge in pain and symptom management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to oversee and manage projects independently.
• Understands and articulates the values of the interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
• Ability to use equipment with visual and auditory mechanisms.
• Ability to effectively communicate in English
• Ability to facilitate education with multiple methods of instruction.
• Strong background in technology and the ability to integrate technology into clinical practice
• Familiarity with Windows based software applications.
• Flexible schedule to meet the needs of hospice patients and staff.
• Ability to physically access any home i.e. navigate stairs and narrow spaces, tolerate heat and lack of air conditioning, in any area Company serves.
• Ability to manage the emotional stress of working with and caring for terminally ill patients and their families.
• Ability to perform the essential functions and physical requirements (including, but not limited to: lifting patients and/or equipment, bending, pushing/pulling, kneeling) of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Job Responsibilities:

Education
• Plan, coordinate, and carry out educational opportunities for staff.
• Collaborate with the, preceptor and manager to identify learning needs of new and existing staff.
• Demonstrate and/or supervise documentation processes and clinical procedures or skills that are unfamiliar to the orientee or existing staff.
• Reinforce the concept and purpose of IDG.
• Plan, coordinate, and carry out education regarding integration of technology into best clinical practice.
• Ensure the competence of orientee in conjunction with the team/department preceptor, utilizing orientation and documentation competency checklists.
• Consults with manager and team/department preceptor to identify areas in need of further development for new and existing staff.
• Participate in evaluating nurses at the novice, intermediate and expert levels.
• Coordinate activities with manager and team/department preceptors to maintain consistency in practice.
• Present in-services to staff addressing clinical content and processes, as requested.
• Conduct focused staff training to improve clinical documentation quality and processes.
• Lead/participates in assigned committees, work groups to identify and implement best practices.
• Test system changes and educate preceptors on new functionality.
• Available to preceptors for assisting with documentation issues, may include on-call rotations.

Clinical
• Provides direct patient care as needed as part of the Interdisciplinary group.
• Communicate accurately and completely to physicians, staff members, patients, families, and managers; utilize positive approaches when working with other staff members.
• Take verbal orders from physicians, ARNPs and physician’s assistants.
• Consults, refers, and collaborates with other professionals to promote quality and continuity of patient/family care.
• Assists in the education by the IDG of patient, family, caregivers and other health professionals about disease process and decline, palliative interventions, care giving, dying processes and safety practices.
• Assist in evaluation of clinical practices through competency assessment, chart review and other research.
• Accept responsibility for and teaches others to be accountable for nursing actions: demonstrate an understanding of the legal consequences of nursing actions; request supervision when needed; perform within the guidelines established by the Florida Nurse Practice Act.

Financial

• Educate on the utilization of supplies, equipment, medication, laboratory and patient therapies within the Company’s philosophy.
• Educate staff on palliative and home care management modalities for patients to minimize hospitalizations.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the four (4) levels of care and subsequent documentation required.
•Serves as a resource regarding payment structures and paperwork necessary to change financial classes.



Professional Development
• Pursue own professional growth through attendance at required inservices; i.e., safety, infection control, Establish professional goals for self and continually evaluates self in the attainment of these goals.
• Participate in professional organizations and activities related to specialty area to enhance hospice skills.
