    Organization Overview
    Bon Secours St. Petersburg (BSSP) is a diverse long-term care organization providing a continuum of care to elderly individuals.  BSSP offers high quality skilled nursing care, in-patient and outpatient rehabilitation, comprehensive home care services and state-of-the-art assisted living, all on a beautiful and well maintained campus.

    BSSP is comprised of three facilities:  Maria Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Care Center, a 274-bed licensed nursing care center offering skilled and long-term nursing with a dedicated Alzheimer’s unit.  In addition, the Center for Rehabilitation provides a highly skilled in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation program.  The second facility, Bon Secours Place is a 102-unit Assisted Living Facility (ALF) in partnership with Life Care Services, LLC of Des Moines, IA; one of the first ALFs to receive Joint Commission accreditation.  In 2006, BSSP launched a new home health agency, Bon Secours St. Petersburg Home Health Services Inc., to provide nursing and rehabilitation services throughout the community.  BSSP also provides select community programs for at-risk elderly.

    Position Summary
    The physical therapy assistant provides physical therapy services under the direction of the physical therapist and according to the physician’s plan of care.

    Position Qualifications
    Education
    : Graduate of an accredited physical therapy assistant program with either an Associate’s degree in science or applied science that is approved by American Physical Therapy Association, Inc.

    Licensure: Current certification or license as required by state law, CPR card, and must have current and valid Florida State driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and ability to provide own transportation for home visits. Motor vehicle record must be acceptable to BSSPHC insurers and meet BSSPHC policy standards.

    Standard Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
    In accordance with federal, state, and local laws, certain physical skills are required for all positions within BSSP Home Health Care including, but not limited to: repetitive motions such as typing, answering phones, constant writing up to 80% of the time, lifting up to 20 pounds such as laptops, luggage, files, etc., 10% of the time, ability to view electronic monitors at close distances 80% of the time, or constant sitting for long durations 60% of the time, as well as frequent standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, stooping, or walking 50% of the time. Must be able to climb stairs. Must be able to lift, position, push, and/or transfer patients following proper procedures for safety. Must have visual and auditory acuity.

    Work environment is in doors as well as outdoors while traveling to client homes and exposed to direct contact with elderly residents, staff members and family members. Constant interruptions are possible as well as the requirement for extended work hours beyond the traditional work hours including weekends and evenings. There is the potential to be subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day. The incumbent is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses, as well as blood, body fluids, tissues or respiratory secretions. May be exposed to pets and potential pests within patient’s home. The incumbent must be able to ambulate for eight hours per day.
