Job Description: 
  • The Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse who possesses additional preparation and skills in physical diagnosis, psychosocial assessment, and management of health-illness needs.  Provides consultative services to community and SDHIPM patients as requested and provides primary health care to SDHIPM patients in consultation and collaboration with SDHIPM staff physicians and as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Functions within the protocols established by the Medical Staff.  Serves as a clinical expert to support advancement of staff’s clinical competencies.

    Education: Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of California.  Must have successfully completed a nurse practitioner program from an accredited university, be nationally certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or other recognized nationally certifying body, and hold a Furnishing Number.  A DEA number is required for assignments regarding Out-Patient and Homecare visits.  The qualifications and scope of practice for a nurse practitioner are defined in the State of California, Board of Registered Nursing, Nursing Practice Act, Article 8, Sections 1470-1485.  Must possess a valid CPR certification.

    Experience: Requires a minimum of 3 years of full time nursing experience in an acute care or clinic environment.  Familiarity with interpersonal dynamics operative within a health care team and knowledge of the dying and bereavement processes.  Current California Driver’s license and automobile insurance required.
